Rapid City is excited to be hosting two more state tournaments in March at The Monument, including State A Boys Basketball and State AAU Wrestling.

“Rapid City is the ideal location to hold state tournaments, especially with the diverse facilities at The Monument,” said Domico Rodriguez, Executive Director of Rapid City Sports Commission. “Our community continues to host more youth tournaments and we look forward to having future opportunities through the success of these events.”

Rapid City will be hosting the State A Boys Basketball Tournament in the Summit Arena March 14-16. Both the boys and girls tournaments are composed of eight teams with approximately 320 athletes competing for the title.

Overlapping the boys basketball tournament is State AAU Wrestling that will be held in the Ice Arena March 15-17, where 1,600 athletes will compete. The March tournaments will have an estimated economic impact of $3 million on local Rapid businesses.

With its location steps from downtown – and with ample parking and easy access to city amenities like hotels, shops and restaurants – The Monument is in the perfect location to host state and regional sporting events.

“The Monument is an incredible facility for tournaments of all sizes,” said Brook Kaufman, CEO of Visit Rapid City. “These events bring a competitive atmosphere to Rapid City and also help support the local economy, filling our hotels, restaurants and retail locations with people from near and far. Tournaments are also a great way for spectators to become familiar with our city and may inspire them to plan a return trip.”
