The City of Sioux Falls is planning an indoor aquatics facility. According to an article in the Argus Leader, officials are presently organizing a focus group to give input on layout and features of the aquatic center at Spellerberg Park.
“We’re trying to get a cross section of the community,” Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Director Don Kearney said.
The general public will also have an opportunity to give input during open house meetings next year.
Voters decided this spring they did not want to replace the pool at Spellerberg Park with another outdoor facility. City officials have favored that site for an indoor pool because of its central location.
The outdoor pool at Spellerberg Park was torn out in August.
The indoor facility will be built over two construction seasons. The project will go to bid in spring 2015 and work will start as soon as weather allows. The grand opening is planned for fall 2016.
It’s expected to cost $19.4 million.
