Senior softball players will return to Knoxville/Maryville, TN on June 5-7, 2015 for the Annual Smoky Mountain Senior Classic. The International Senior Softball Association has partnered with Visit Knoxville, along with the Parks and Recreation Departments from Maryville, Knox County, and the City of Knoxville to bring the prestigious event to the senior players. The Smoky Mountain Classic is considered by many as the premiere event of its kind in sport slow-pitch softball.
"It's great to see these athletes have a chance to compete together in a sport they're passionate about," says Kim Bumpas, president of Visit Knoxville. "Knoxville is a great sporting events destination and the Visit Knoxville team is pleased to once again be working with these partners."
"The growth in participation for the senior event has exceeded our expectations," advised RB Thomas, Jr., ISSA Executive Director. "Last year, we had 50 senior teams playing and had to add the softball fields in Knox County and the City of Knoxville to accommodate the growth. 2015 will be another record year with over 60 teams coming to town for the three day event. A new Super Division was added this year and the event has drawn teams from coast to coast," offered Thomas.
The senior players who range in ages from fifty to over eighty have found the Knoxville area to be a great destination for a senior softball tournament. "The local park staffing has worked to provide the participants a real quality tournament experience," added Thomas. "So the future is sure to see this event continue to attract the senior teams from throughout the United States."
Visit Knoxville (Knoxville Convention and Visitors Bureau) is the official CVB for the City of Knoxville and Knox County.
