For the third consecutive year, the Greene County Sports Council and the Greene County Partnership Tourism will host the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division III World Series at Tusculum University's Pioneer Park.
The dates for the tournament this year are May 24-30. The event will bring together eight of the top junior college teams in the country who will battle for their ultimate prize, the World Series championship.
Oakton Junior College (Illinois) won the 2018 event, beating Tyler (Texas) in a 13-inning 14-11 thriller in the national championship game. Tyler had won the previous four World Series crowns.
Teams for the event will not be announced until the week before the World Series as the colleges complete their regional tournaments.
All games will be played at Pioneer Park, home of the Tusculum University Pioneers as well as the Appalachian League’s Greeneville Reds.
More information concerning the event will be announced in the coming weeks. Contact Tammy Kinser at the Greene County Partnership (638-4111) for info on becoming a tournament sponsor, or stop by the Partnership offices on Academy Street.
The World Series is a project of the Sports Council of the Greene County Partnership Tourism Department. Sponsors include Greene County Government, John Deere Power Products, City of Tusculum, Town of Greeneville, Town of Mosheim, Brolin & Bailey, The General Morgan Inn, The Greeneville Sun and WGRV Radio Greeneville.
