Rocky Top Sports World recently unveiled Mountain Thicket Thunder, a new football event that will be held in conjunction with Gatlinburg-Pittman High School Football. Mountain Thicket Thunder will be held July 12-14 and will include both 7v7 games and Big Man Battles.
“This has been an event we’ve wanted to create for a few years and I’m happy to see it finally come to fruition in 2022,” said Andrew Capps, Business Development Manager for Rocky Top Sports World. “This is a rare opportunity for public, private, home school and 8-Man teams to go head-to-head as they prepare for upcoming seasons. We’ve expanded our reach to include multi-state representation and unique matchups that every team desires.”
The 7v7 portion will focus on skill positions, while the Big Man Battle pits offensive lines against defensive lines. The two-portion format allows entire football teams to get ample off-season practice time and helps to prepare players and teams for the upcoming season. In addition to the practices, scrimmages and games, teams will also have the option to add a training package offered by D1 Training.
“As a high school team, we love 7on7 in the summer to get ready for the season,” said Gatlinburg-Pittman High School Football Coach Brad Waggoner. “We’re always looking to add as many 7on7 scrimmages/games as possible.”
Rocky Top Sports World and Gatlinburg-Pittman High School share an 80-acre multisport complex just minutes from downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Surrounded by Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Rocky Top Sports World is conveniently located for a family vacation. Outdoor facilities, include one natural field and six turf fields, including a championship stadium. Having multiple playing fields in close proximity, blended with breathtaking scenery, makes Rocky Top Sports World a unique sports destination.
“We have the type of facilities at Rocky Top Sports World and Gatlinburg-Pittman that you won’t find anywhere else in the country,” Waggoner said. “An organized event like this, mixed with the fantastic facilities we have, is any high school coach’s dream scenario.”
