The Nashville Sports Council and the University of Tennessee announced today that the Tennessee Volunteers will open their 2015 football season at LP Field in Nashville. The Volunteers will take on the UAB Blazers on Saturday, September 5, 2015. Kickoff time will be determined at a later date.
"We’re excited to host the University of Tennessee’s season opener at LP Field for the first time since 2002,” said Scott Ramsey, President & CEO, Nashville Sports Council. “With the momentum that Coach Jones is building throughout the state, it should be a full stadium with a great atmosphere in downtown Nashville. We look forward to welcoming the fans from both UT and UAB to kick off the 2015 college football season in Music City over Labor Day weekend!"
Tennessee last played at LP Field in the 2010 Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl, a thrilling double overtime game against North Carolina. Prior to that, they opened the 2002 season at LP Field where they handily defeated Wyoming 47-7.
“Scott Ramsey and I have been in conversation about opening our 2015 season in Nashville for more than a year,” said Tennessee vice chancellor and director of athletics Dave Hart. “It is exciting to have this come to fruition, and we look forward to opening our season in front of a great crowd in Nashville.”
“We have made the necessary adjustments to our 2015 football schedule in order for us to move our opening game against UAB to Nashville, which is a priority for us from the perspective of recruiting, our fans, and our alumni. We were scheduled to play Connecticut in 2015 and 2016, but we have a mutual agreement to suspend that series in order to provide us the opportunity to play in Nashville in 2015 and in Bristol in 2016. We will still play seven home games in Neyland Stadium in 2015, beginning with hosting Oklahoma on September 12.”
Ticket information is not yet available for the 2015 contest. Updates can be found at NashvilleSports.com and UTSPORTS.COM as they become available.
