Record-breaking is a term that Rocky Top Sports World has become increasingly familiar with after the completion of three years of operation.
The sports tournament facility, located in Gatlinburg, TN, is now adding an additional $35.4 million in economic impact to their already impressive resume.
Gatlinburg Mayor Mike Werner stated, “Rocky Top has continued to over-deliver and we couldn’t be more excited for the future.” Over 42,000 athletes, alongside spectators, families, and friends, had the opportunity to enjoy a world-class venue within the beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains and fun of Gatlinburg.
The venue also played a key role in securing in excess of 53,000 room nights for Sevier County. “Bringing consistent business into Sevier County is imperative to our overall success in the tourism industry. We are pleased to see the youth sports segment continue to grow,” said Sevier County Mayor Larry Waters.
In addition, Rocky Top Sports World aided in doubling team attendance in multiple events, including the “Peak Challenge” volleyball tournament and the “US Amateur Girls Nationals” basketball tournament. “The City of Gatlinburg is extremely pleased with Rocky Top’s performance over the past three years. The exponential growth in year three confirms, yet again, that this was the right choice for Gatlinburg and Sevier County”, added Gatlinburg City Manager Cindy Cameron Ogle.
The National Association of Sports Commissions recognized the complex for work outside of the sports community while serving as a Red Cross disaster shelter during the Gatlinburg Wildfires of November 2016.
The upcoming 2017-18 year will bring many new and exciting sporting and special events to Rocky Top Sports World such as hosting the Tennessee Governor’s Conference on Hospitality and Tourism opening reception in early October 2017.
