The Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau, an affiliate of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, is proud to announce the Jon Smith Annual Memorial High School Volleyball Showcase presented by the Abilene Youth Sports Authority. The event is slated to take place July 19-20, 2024, at the Dodge Jones Youth Sports Center.
This youth sports event will bring together top high school volleyball teams from across the region. The showcase not only honors the legacy of Jon Smith, a beloved member of the Abilene community, but also promotes youth sports and encourages community involvement.
Jon Smith served as Executive Director for Abilene Youth Sports Authority from its inception until his passing on August 3, 2018. As a devout Christian and family man, Jon loved youth sports and dedicated his life to growing opportunities in Abilene for more kids and parents to participate in sports to build character, relationships, and important life lessons. The Jon Smith Memorial Showcase carries on his legacy of love for the sport and the kids who play it.
The event is expected to generate a positive economic impact for Abilene, with an estimated 265 room nights booked and an economic contribution of approximately $157,950. The influx of visitors will benefit local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments.
