Trail Racing Over Texas, the largest community-based trail racing organization in Texas and organizer of the Brazos Bend 100 Trail Races announces that the Brazos Bend State Park will be open for the annual event less than four months after the most devastating hurricane in Houston’s history. Registration is on pace to sell out for this race for all event distances.
“The local and national support that this race has received over the years, and this year in particular, has been amazing,” said Trail Racing Over Texas Race Director Robert Goyen. “To see the local running community be able to come together alongside professional and amateur runners from all over the United States to race will make this year’s event a special one.”
The Brazos Bend 100, profiled in the 2016 short film Texas Trail Blazer, is one of the fastest 100 mile trail race in the United States. This event offers distances for all runners including the marque 100 mile, 100 mile 6-person relay, 50 mile, marathon and half marathon races.
“Brazos Bend State Park suffered its worst flood event ever a result of Hurricane Harvey and caused major damage,” says Brazos Bend Park Naturalist David Heinicke. “It’s taken over two months of hard work from our staff, staff from other state parks, volunteers and community support to clean up and make repairs to get the park open and ready for the Brazos Bend 100. The only sign of the flood the public may see are the high-water marks on the trees.”
The 2017 edition of the Brazos Bend 100 takes place on December 9-10 just outside of Houston Texas. Registration is open at http://www.trailracingovertexas.com/brazos-bend-100/ for all distances until the race sells out.
