Fort Worth to Host 2022 US National Table Tennis Championships

USA Table Tennis (“USATT”) and the Fort Worth Sports Commission jointly announced that the 2022 US National Table Tennis Championships will be held in the Fort Worth Convention Center in downtown Fort Worth, Texas. The 2022 US National Championships will mark the return of elite level table tennis to Fort Worth, which served as the host of the 2019 US Open at the Convention Center. The Prospectus for the 2022 US Nationals, which will run from July 2 through July 7, 2022, is expected to be released in the near future.

“We are thrilled to be returning to the Fort Worth Convention Center,” said USATT Chief Executive Officer Virginia Sung. “We believe that the 2019 US Open held in Fort Worth was a resounding success, thanks in large part to the cooperation and assistance that we received from the Fort Worth Sports Commission and the support that we received from the local community, including one of the great table tennis colleges in America, Texas Wesleyan. We look forward to hosting an even bigger and better event in the 2022 US Nationals because we know what is possible in this great city, which offers a tremendous venue in the downtown Convention Center and lots of attractions for our participants who want to explore north Texas when they aren’t playing table tennis.”

The fifth largest city in Texas, Fort Worth is known for embracing its Old West heritage, particularly at nationally famous institutions such as the Stockyards, which was once the largest livestock market in the United States and has become famous for its bars, restaurants, and music venues. The home of the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, as well as the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame, Fort Worth also boasts several internally recognized museums and theatres. 

Opened in 1968, the Fort Worth Convention Center has hosted some of the biggest names in entertainment history, including Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, and U2. With respect to sports, the Convention Center has been home to professional basketball and hockey teams and currently hosts an indoor football team in the American Arena League, the North Texas Bulls. The Convention Center has also hosted many major tournaments and events for sports in the Olympic movement, including gymnastics and volleyball. 

Adding excitement to this year’s event for the 2022 US Nationals, the premier show courts will be strategically placed in the Arena portion of the Convention Center, which for certain events is capable of seating over 13,000 patrons, allowing for considerable spectator attendance, and adding to the championship feel of the big matches in this year’s US Nationals.
