A once in a generation project”; Next Sports Company initiates a transformative endeavor as they commence construction on the Corpus Christi FC Multi Sports Complex.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Wednesday, marks the commencement of this ambitious project, anticipated to be a pivotal game-changer for the local economy in Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend region, according to esteemed local officials and stakeholders.
In attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony were notable figures including Dr. Kingsley Okonkwo, founder and president of Corpus Christi FC and Next Sports Company, Mayor Paulette Guajardo, CCREDC CEO Mike Culbertson, Corpus Christi Council members, City staff, as well as players from Corpus Christi FC and Corpus Christi FC Academy.
Dr. Okonkwo, emphasizing the transformative impact of the multi sports complex, stated, “Now emerging from a previously underutilized area of our city, our multi sports complex signifies a landmark development that will leave a lasting imprint on our community. Its influence is poised to resonate across generations of supporters, visitors, and residents who will soon have the privilege of enjoying its world-class amenities. With this groundbreaking, we celebrate a pivotal milestone, enabling the realization of a new multi sports venue. This venture positions us to attract regional and national tournaments, establish a professional soccer team, and provide a world-class training facility for our athletes.”
The Corpus Christi FC multi-Sports Complex is located on the city’s west side on 46 acres of land at 5102 Old Brownsville Rd, is expected to open in 2024. It will feature outdoor playing surfaces for various sports, like soccer, baseball, softball, lacrosse, flag football and possibly more.
Corpus Christi FC is currently a member of USL League Two, Corpus Christi would be a great home to a professional soccer team, It is a fantastic community that has already shown a hunger for the beautiful game.
This complex will bring together a lot of families, create jobs, revenue and excitement in the city and the region. An investment group led by Next Sports Company and Corpus Christi FC. Owner and President Dr. Kingsley Okonkwo is developing the facility which is expected to cost $28.3 million when all phases are completed. The project also received a grant under a five-year incentive agreement with the city of Corpus Christi. The complex would include a 5,000-seat soccer stadium, 8 multi use fields, a Go kart racing tract, and offices.
The developers are presently exploring naming rights opportunities for the sports complex with the intention to have a naming rights partner in place by fall 2024 when the complex opens officially.
Key components of the complex encompass:
· A 5,000-seat modular stadium, serving as the official venue for Corpus Christi FC’s professional and pre-professional soccer teams, while also available for public rental, events, and concerts.
· 8 versatile fields, illuminated for baseball, softball, flag football, and soccer.
· A standard-length Go Kart racing track, introducing the city’s inaugural Go Kart racing program.
· Beyond hosting tournaments on weekends, the complex will be the epicenter for Corpus Christi FC and Next Sports youth athletic programs, and it will extend its facilities to local sports clubs and leagues.
