The best quadball teams from across the country are returning to Round Rock, Texas this year.
US Quadball, the national governing body of quadball in the United States, announced that it had selected the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex to host US Quadball Cup 2024 in April in partnership with the Round Rock Sports Management and Tourism Department. The league previously partnered with Round Rock to host back-to-back editions of the marquee event in 2018 and 2019.
“Texas is home to some of the best quadball teams in the US. USQ looks forward to showcasing this streak of excellence with US Quadball Cup 2024, and introducing fans to some new favorites from outside the Lonestar State,” said USQ Executive Director Mary Kimball.
Quadball is a mixed-gender, full-contact sport played by 600 teams in 40 countries. The rules, originally adapted from the Harry Potter series by students at Middlebury College in Vermont, incorporate a mix of elements from basketball, rugby and dodgeball.
US Quadball Cup is a two-day tournament with both college and club divisions. The University of Texas at Austin won the college division at the most recent edition of the event in Salt Lake City, Utah, while Texas Hill Country Heat claimed the title in the club division.
USQ is returning to Round Rock in part because the Austin metropolitan area has received perfect scores in the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index, which rates Austin as a gold-standard city for LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC safety and community engagement. Round Rock also won a poll of USQ members this season, with over 70 percent of respondents voting for Round Rock within their top two preferences.
US Quadball Cup 2023 was held April 15-16 in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
