USA Dodgeball, the national governing body for the sport of dodgeball in the country, will bring more than 80 competitive, adult dodgeball players to the one-day, dodgeball Combine tryouts held at the Harry Stone Recreation Center in Dallas on Saturday July 27, 2019.
The Combine will determine the final men’s and women’s Team USA roster to represent the United States at the 2019 Dodgeball World Championships in hopes to defend their Women’s Gold and Men’s Silver medal standings from last year’s championships in Los Angeles.
Each Team USA prospect was individually evaluated and hand selected by a group of eight veteran Combine scouts. At the Combine, these athletes will be assessed on skills includingspeed, accuracy, and agility, along with intangibles like team chemistry, sportsmanship, and leadership. The men’s and women’s teams will have a minimum of six rostered players each, not including an additional selection of alternates to be on standby.
“With the amount of talent our athletesexhibit, our scouts have determined that these players have demonstrated the values that our organization is looking for in our representatives to the world,” USA Dodgeball President Jake Mason said. “We’re so excited to see them prove themselves at the Combine, where our scouts will have the even tougher task of selecting a squad with the right balance of skill, sportsmanship, and integrity.”
The women’s team competed against seven international teams and claimed their Gold win against the talented Team Malaysia. They will be heavily favored to repeat this at the 2019 Dodgeball World Championships in Cancun, Mexico. The men’s team went up against nine international teams from around the world and won Silver during their final match against Team Malaysia.
The Combine will begin at 10 a.m. and will continue through 4 p.m. on Saturday with participants playing men’s and women’s foam divisions under the World Dodgeball Federation rule set.
