As part of the WTA Finals, the Fort Worth Sports Commission is partnering with the Fort Worth Tennis Association, Texas Christian University and WTA Charites to host a tennis clinic for local youth tennis players. The clinic will be held at TCU’s Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center on Thursday, October 27 at 5pm.
More than 40 local youth tennis players will participate and have a chance to meet some of the professional athletes participating in the WTA Finals. “The Sports Commission is excited to work with our local partners and the WTA to give a once of a lifetime opportunity to our local kids while encouraging them to strive for greatness,” said Jason Sands, Executive Director of the Fort Worth Sports Commission.
“We are thrilled to bring the WTA Finals to Fort Worth this year and showcase the world’s best tennis players to a new audience,” said Steve Simon, WTA Chairman and CEO. “Engaging the local community is crucial for the growth of our sport, helping to inspire the next generation of tennis fans and players in both Fort Worth and around the world.”
The WTA Finals will feature the eight best female singles players and the eight best doubles teams in the world competing for a $5 million dollar purse. The event will take place at Dickies Arena from October 31 – November 7 and will mark the first time the Finals will be in the US since 2005. It will be broadcast to more than 170 countries worldwide.
“We are so excited to have the best players in the world in Fort Worth,” said Christine Figley, Fort Worth Tennis Association Board President. “It’s a really special experience for our local youth players to get to meet some of these athletes and watch them compete on one of the biggest stages in the sport.”
