The GOAL Foundation, producers of the Ogden Marathon, is proud to announce that Another Mother Runner has chosen the Ogden Marathon for its spring AMR Retreat: Run + Refresh. Another Mother Runner in an online running community, established by two authors and accomplished athletes, that brings together female runners from all walks of life to encourage physical fitness, camaraderie, and support from the first step to the finish line.
The Ogden Marathon and all its race options, is the cornerstone of the Retreat. Race options include a Full Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay Team and a 5K. These race options are designed to incorporate all skill levels from beginner to ultra-marathoner. The courses are beautiful and gently descend downhill through a canyon, past two waterfalls, through the botanical gardens and finish on historic 25th Street in downtown Ogden (see photo). This scenic course is USA Track & Field Certified & Sanctioned and is a Boston qualifier. All racers will be reunited as they cross the world class finish line where they can celebrate their accomplishments together.
What began as a blog written by Sarah Bowen Shae and Dimity McDowell about the challenges they faced balancing family and work while training for a marathon, has evolved into this amazing living breathing tribe of women that have banded together as a community to support one another. “We feel that AMR truly embodies our mission at GOAL: To inspire the Greater Ogden Community and its visitors to "Get Out And Live!" by participating, volunteering and spectating at recreational evens, programs and activities. Envisioning a Greater Ogden community that thrives economically and is healthier in mind, body and spirit. We are ecstatic to welcome this incredible group of women into the Ogden Marathon family and are honored that they have chosen to ‘Run + Refresh’ with us in scenic Ogden”, said Jenny Scothern, Executive Director of the GOAL Foundation.
Registration for the Ogden Marathon and the Run + Refresh Retreat are now open. “Dimity and I ran the Ogden Half-Marathon in 2011: We are excited to experience that beautiful, gentle-downhill race course again with a bevy of mother runners,” says co-founder Sara Bowen Shea. “We’ll run, gab, laugh, eat tasty food, drink at a restored speakeasy, sleep on luxurious beds, share racing advice, showcase how to decrease the risk of running injuries, hone mental skills, impart nutritional wisdom, and reinvigorate your passion for our beloved sport.” The Retreat kicks off on Thursday, May 17 and culminates on Sunday, May 20.
