The XTERRA USA / Pan American Championship off-road triathlon and XTERRA Trail Run National Championship half-marathon race dates are moving from September 14-15 to September 7-8, 2019.
The off-road triathlons – full and sprint distance races – will be held on Saturday, September 7, and the National Championship 21K, and 5K/10K trail runs will be on Sunday, September 8. The events will be staged at Snowbasin Resort near Ogden, Utah, for the 16th year.
“We’re deeply apologetic that this date change is necessary, however, an unavoidable conflict has caused the move,” said XTERRA President Janet Clark.
Race entries for athletes already registered for either event will be automatically transferred to the new date, and any athletes affected by the change can request a full-refund by writing to info[at]xterraplanet.com by March 31, 2019.
The XTERRA USA / Pan American Championship triathlon is the last of 10 championship events in a series of off-road triathlons spanning South and Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean, Canada, and the US.
It starts with a one-mile swim in Pineview Reservoir (4,900-feet elevation); follows with an 18-mile mountain bike leg that climbs more than 3,000-feet to the top of Sardine Peak (7,300-feet elevation); and culminates with a 7-mile trail run featuring another 600-feet of climbing on trails around Snowbasin Resort in the Wasatch Range. There is also a half-distance sprint off-road triathlon and relay-team options.
The fastest racers in each five-year age group will be honoured as the XTERRA Pan American Champion, and the fastest American in each of those divisions will be celebrated as XTERRA’s US National Champion. Elite off-roaders will be competing for US$80,000 in prize money, and all the action will be filmed for a nationally broadcast one-hour TV show.
The XTERRA Trail Run National Championship half-marathon also features scenic views, technical trails, and big climbs. The half-marathon, plus the 5K and 10K trail runs are open to all.
In addition to the weekend races XTERRA will host an expo in downtown Ogden on Friday afternoon (September 6) with free run and bike races for kids, Suunto demos, and the Paul Mitchell hair cut-a-thon for charity.
