Figure skaters from across the nation are traveling to Leesburg, VA in Loudoun County this month for the 2022 U.S. Figure Skating Championship Series, presented by Toyota.
The competition will take place October 27 – 30 at the state-of-the-art Ion International Training Center in Leesburg, a stunning 100,000 square-foot twin sheet indoor facility with 3,500 stadium seats.
More than 330 figure skating stars from ages 8 – 28 are expected to compete, seeking to qualify for the 2022 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships, the final competition prior to the nomination of the 2022 U.S. Olympic Figure Skating Team. Amongst the competitors include 2014 Olympic bronze medalist Gracie Gold, and local Virginia skater Ilia Malinin, who is currently on Team USA competing in the ISU Junior Grand Prix Series and will make his senior men’s debut in Leesburg!
This is the first U.S. Figure Skating qualifying competition to be hosted at the Ion International Training Center. Luiz Taifas, the center’s founder and a former member of Romania’s Olympic Team, envisions the space as a premier East Coast venue for national and international skating events, in addition to providing year-round training facilities for current competitive figure skaters and the next generation of elite competitors.
