Spring is the season for team match play in college tennis, and last year's ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship final between Duke and UCLA set an early tone for a dramatic season. The Bruins appeared to be on their way to the title after taking a 3-0 lead over the Blue Devils, with wins coming in the doubles point and fifth and sixth singles. Then Duke took the next two matches at third and fourth singles and completed the raucous comeback by winning third-set match tiebreaks at first and second singles. The win gave Duke its second ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championship in program history, and handed UCLA a loss in the final for the second straight year.

No. 1 ranked UCLA returns all six members of its starting lineup from last year's final but is up against a talented field. Eight of the sixteen participating teams are ranked in the Top 10 of the ITA Division I National Team Rankings, and all but one is ranked in the Top 20. In 2014, Duke won the title as the No. 7 seed; the top-seeded team has won the championship just twice in the past eight years.

The 2015 ITA Kick-Off Weekend, held January 23-26, pitted fifteen groups of four teams against each other with a ticket to National Team Indoors as the prize. Twelve of the fifteen No. 1 seeds survived; upset-minded Oklahoma State, TCU and Kentucky marched through hosts Georgia Tech, Texas A&M and Northwestern, respectively to earn their bids. TCU improved from No. 41 to No. 20 with the effort, while Kentucky, the lowest ranked team in the field this weekend at No. 26 earned an 18-spot bump up the rankings.

Several participating teams have faced each other already in dual matches this spring. Host-site Virginia may be the most battle-ready team, having played two Top 10 opponents in the past two weeks. Defeated 6-1 by No. 6 Baylor on Jan. 24, the No. 10 Cavaliers rebounded from the loss and the flu bug to defeat No. 9 Georgia 4-2 on Monday night. The Georgia Bulldogs also notched a 4-3 win over ITA National Women's Team Indoor participant and No. 13-ranked Clemson this past Saturday, while No. 7 Alabama defeated No. 20 TCU 6-1 on Saturday as well.
