The Smith River Sports Complex and Piedmont Youth Soccer League have teamed up to host the Piedmont Shootout Youth Soccer Tournament this weekend, November 10-12. 61 teams from Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina will be traveling to Martinsville to participate in the event.
"This tournament is one of our busiest and exciting weekends of the year," SRSC Executive Director Lloyd Barber said. "It's a great opportunity to showcase our fantastic youth talent in the area as well as our world-class facility while benefiting our community tremendously with thousands of visitors."
The Piedmont Shootout is now in its ninth year and will have 61 youth soccer teams playing in 2017. Of the 61 teams participating, 10 teams with a combined 155 kids will be representing Martinsville-Henry County as the PYSL Hurricanes. The other 51 teams will be visiting from all over the states of Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina.
"It's great to be in our ninth year holding this event for the club, city and region," Enda Crehan, PYSL's director of coaching, said. "It's always great for our teams to be able to play in our own backyard so families can see them play. It's also a great way to finish out a great fall of soccer."
The tournament will begin Friday night with two games at 7 p.m. then run all day on both Saturday and Sunday. Games begin at 8 a.m. both days with Saturday's final round of games beginning around 8:00 p.m. Sunday will have championship games beginning as late as 5:00 p.m. Admission is free to the public.
