The Smith River Sports Complex (SRSC) will host the 2016 Dick's Sporting Goods Southwest Virginia Lacrosse Tournament this Saturday, May 21. The single-day tournament will begin at 8 a.m. with the championship matches scheduled to begin around 5 p.m.
"Over the last couple of years we have developed a great relationship with the lacrosse community in Roanoke, and other areas of southwest Virginia," said Billy Russo, SRSC Director of Operations. "Bringing all of these teams to our complex for this event is a welcome addition to our schedule and the growth of local and regional lacrosse."
2016 will mark the second time the Complex has hosted this event. The inaugural event occurred in 2015 and marked the first home tournament for Martinsville's Southside River Sharks. The River Sharks and SRSC now host a combined six lacrosse events throughout the year to continue to grow the game in southwest Virginia. The River Sharks are made up of 9-14 year old boys from Martinsville and Danville.
Other teams that will be participating in the tournament come from areas in Virginia such as Franklin County, Lexington, Roanoke, Salem, Blacksburg, Forest, Cave Spring and Hidden Valley.
