The Ultra Race of Champions, to be held May 11, 2019, is thrilled to announce that, beginning in 2019, all events (100K, 50K, 25K) will now start and finish at beautiful Skylark. The event has historically started at Camp Blue Ridge and finished on Skylark’s summit.
“Our starting location for the past three years, Camp Blue Ridge, has suffered from the harsh winter weather,” says James Russell Gill III, the race director. “Therefore, in order to allow Camp Blue Ridge time to recover, we are moving the start to the very summit of Skylark. In addition, having the start at Skylark allows us full connectivity to broadcast live the start of all three events. To make things even more exciting, Skylark Farms is completing their latest project, a new world-class vineyard. This will be one of the most iconic starting locations for a trail race in the world.”
Skylark Farms is becoming 12 Ridges Vineyard, a new vision at one of the most iconic locations along the entire Blue Ridge Parkway. 12 Ridges Vineyard will be opening to the public in the summer of 2019 with a tasting room, five thousand square feet of outdoor patio space, and glorious 360-degree views. The 270 acres of land fronting along the Parkway has unprecedented views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley. “We are delighted to be opening the property so all may enjoy what only a few have seen before,” says Craig Colberg, owner of 12 Ridges. “12 Ridges features ‘cool climate’ wines. Our unique terroir of soil and an altitude above 3,300′ lend themselves to extraordinary possibilities including European style Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling; a Pinot Noir ideally suited for 12 Ridges and magnificent sparkling wines. The 2019 event is also possible thanks to the support of the race sponsors, including Naked Hydration Packs.
