The best Class 3A and Class 4A high school golfers will compete for individual titles at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Golf State Championships May 21-22, in Vancouver USA. Golfers will play at four regional golf courses and vie to be state champions.
“Vancouver USA’s uniquely designed golf courses not only provide a challenging round of golf, but are well-equipped to hold large tournaments such as the WIAA championship,” said Rosemary Cooke, director of sales at the Vancouver USA Regional Tourism Office, which operates the Vancouver USA Regional Sports Commission. “We are thrilled to welcome the WIAA to Vancouver USA and participate in more state-level championships.”
The Class 3A boys state tournament will take place at Tri-Mountain Golf Course, Ridgefield, while the Class 3A girls will play at the Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland.
The Class 4A boys championship will be held at Camas Meadows Golf Club in Camas, and the girls will compete at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver.
The event will return to Vancouver USA in 2014; the boys and girls teams will rotate courses within each classification for next year’s championships.
"It's great to be the host destination of the 3A and 4A boys and girls WIAA State Golf Championships,” said Leta Meyer, at-large representative for the WIAA Executive Board and Heritage High School Athletic Director. “Our local kids and coaches are extremely excited to play in their own backyards this year and we are thrilled to show off our regional hospitality and to showcase some of our gorgeous courses. With 320 of the top young golfers in the state all playing here for two to three days, it's really an honor to be involved in the State Championships."
