The IRONMAN Group has confirmed that the IRONMAN Wisconsin triathlon will shift from its traditional September race date to an all-new early summer date of Sunday, June 19, 2022 for the 20th anniversary of the event.

“We’re proud of the legacy that has been built over the last 20 years here in Madison,” said Keats McGonigal, Vice President of Operations, North America for The IRONMAN Group.

“Anyone that has raced here over the years can attest to the unforgettable experience that racing in the capital city of Wisconsin provides. There isn’t much better of a venue to host a mid-summer race than Madison; and we know this new June date will continue to showcase one of the most beautiful and challenging courses in the Midwest.”

Jamie Patrick, Vice President of the Madison Area Sports Commission, said “We are excited to celebrate Madison’s 20th anniversary with IRONMAN next year. Moving it earlier in the year provides for a new challenge for dedicated athletes that like to test themselves, and allows Madison and Monona Terrace to shine even more under the summer sun.”

The IRONMAN Wisconsin triathlon takes athletes along a 2.4-mile swim in Lake Monona. Once out of the water and on the bike, the athletes will take on the two-loop, 112-mile bike around south-central Wisconsin.

The bike course features long climbs where crowds gather and fast downhills where bike handling skills are showcased. To finish, a 26.2-mile run course consists of a two-lap through downtown Madison, Camp Randall Stadium, and around the University of Wisconsin campus that runs along the shore of Madison’s Lake Mendota.

Athletes will end their 140.6-mile race with a red-carpet finish at the footsteps of the state capitol.
