Record USA Triathlon Age Group Nationals Registration for Milwaukee

For the second year, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will host a record field of triathletes as the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships return to the lakeshore on Aug. 9-10.

Age Group Nationals features two days of competition from the best amateur triathletes in the country, with the traditional Olympic-Distance National Championships scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9, and the Sprint National Championships on Sunday, Aug. 10. Last year's event in Milwaukee hosted more than 4,000 athletes. This year, a record field of 5,200 athletes are registered for the event, and a limited number of spots are still available in each race. Athletes in the Olympic-distance event must meet qualification standards outlined at usatriathlon.org.

National titles will be awarded in 28 different age groups, with Olympic-distance athletes competing on a 1,500-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike, 10-kilometer run course and Sprint Nationals competitors racing a 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run. Voted the Best Urban Triathlon in the 2013 Triathlon Business International Triathletes' Choice Awards, Age Group Nationals will once again be set along Lake Michigan, with the transition and finish areas next to the Milwaukee Art Museum and Discovery World.

"We are proud to welcome a record field that includes athletes from all 50 states back to the city, and with support from the local organizing committee and the community, we anticipate that this will be one of the most memorable multisport weekends of the year."

In addition to the bragging rights of claiming a national title, athletes will be competing for coveted spots to represent the U.S. at the 2015 ITU World Championships in nearby Chicago. The top 18 finishers (rolling down to 25th place) in each age group in both the Olympic-distance and sprint events in Milwaukee will qualify for a Team USA slot.

Team USA is comprised of amateur athletes that represent the United States at each ITU world championship event. The 2014 ITU World Championships, which age-groupers qualified for in Milwaukee last year, will take place Aug. 27-Sept. 1 in Edmonton, Alberta.

The weekend festivities will kick off Thursday, Aug. 7 with a banquet honoring 2013 USA Triathlon Athletes of the Year and Multisport Award winners. The banquet is hosted by the Age Group Committee and begins at 5:45 p.m. at the Harley-Davidson Museum. Registration information is available at active.com.

The Milwaukee-area community is encouraged to come out and support the competitors and experience the excitement of multisport. Admission to the races is free to all spectators. Volunteer spots are also still available and those interested may register here.
