The 2015 U.S. National Kubb Championship will be held in Eau Claire on the weekend of July 10-12. This tournament – the largest of its kind outside of Europe and one of the largest in the world – will feature 380 players on 108 teams, an increase of over 20 percent from 2014. Lawn game enthusiasts will travel from at least 10 different states to compete in this tournament. There is a player traveling from Sweden to play as well. On Friday, July 10 the U.S. Championship will host the 2nd Annual Kid Kubb (U.S. Junior Kubb Championship), which is a tournament open to kids age 12 and younger. Practice for this event begins at 9 a.m., while the tournament begins at 10 a.m. At least 18 teams are signed up for Kid Kubb, and increase of over 50 percent from 2014.
The U.S. Championship will begin Saturday at 9 a.m., with round robin matches, and the playoff rounds will start at 1:00 p.m. The final eight teams return on Sunday with quarterfinal action beginning at 9 a.m. It is anticipated that the final game will start at approximately 11 a.m.
The yard game, Kubb, was born in Sweden and is played throughout Europe. Played primarily in the Nordic countries, Kubb can now be found around the world with tournaments in Europe and in the U.S.A. Eau Claire is home to numerous clubs, teams, tournaments and leagues.
This is a free, spectator friendly event and will also feature food, music, and entertainment. The estimated economic impact on the Eau Claire Area from the U.S. National Kubb Championship is over $160,000.
