VISIT Milwaukee has announced that Marissa Werner has been promoted to director of sports development. The promotion creates an entirely new sports division for the visitors bureau.
“Marissa has been a leader in sales for VISIT Milwaukee for almost nine years now, and this promotion as well as this targeted direction signifies Milwaukee’s dedication to hosting sporting events,” said Peggy Williams-Smith, president & CEO of VISIT Milwaukee. “A dedicated sports development division will position Milwaukee and the surrounding region as the ultimate sports destination for events.”
As the director of sports development, Werner will create and lead a department focused solely on bringing sports business to the Greater Milwaukee area. The official launch of this new division will take place in August, at which time the division’s formal name and branding will be announced.
“The Milwaukee area has some incredible wins in terms of booking national and international sporting events, but we want to ensure that we continue to build on that momentum,” Werner said. “We’re looking ahead to identify and obtain the next big wins for the city for many years to come. My promotion to this role in the sports market will accomplish that.”
Future Sports Events in Milwaukee - The city of Milwaukee has truly arrived as a destination for leisure and business travelers. Werner’s goal is to ensure more and more athletes and spectators know Milwaukee’s value as a sports destination as well.
