Mountains of Color Film Festival (MOC), the first film festival dedicated toward celebrating BIPOC+ (Black, Indigenous, People of Color, LGBTQIA+) in outdoor, adventure, and conservation filmmaking, is returning to Jackson Hole, Wyoming June 7th through June 10th. In its second year, the festival will feature a multi-day format complete with group outdoor activities, filmmaking workshops, public film screenings, and an after-hours dance party.
Founded in 2023 by filmmakers Sofía Jaramillo, Jr. Rodriguez, and Leslie Bahn Steen, the first-of-its-kind film festival calls attention to and celebrates the diversity of the outdoor community through inspirational film, panel discussions, filmmaking and inclusivity workshops. Set at the base of the Teton Mountain Range in Jackson Hole, WY, MOC seeks to provide a platform for underrepresented outdoor communities to present a diversity of thought and perspective on the outdoors, adventure, and conservation in front of and behind the lens.
“As filmmakers of color, we know firsthand the barriers to entry for BIPOC+ into the outdoor film industry,” MOC Co-Founder Sofía Jaramillo said. “We’re organizing this event not only to showcase BIPOC+ stories, but also to create more spaces for BIPOC+ filmmakers to shine and see their work highlighted.”
MOC welcomes companies, foundations, nonprofits, and individuals with a commitment and interest in DEI to join in this one-of-a-kind gathering of film and community. MOC is actively seeking interested sponsors and allies to help underwrite the costs of running the festival including a filmmakers’ grant, travel stipends for film reviewers and panelists, financial support for workshop leaders, and more.
