Mavic, a leading manufacturer of bike systems and rider equipment, is proud to announce a partnership with USA Cycling that will extend all the way through the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. In addition to providing neutral support for all USA Cycling national championship events, Mavic will also be the official wheel supplier of USA Cycling’s men’s and women’s track teams.
Mavic’s Special Service Course (SSC), led by its fleet of VW SportWagons, will provide riders with assistance at national events across the country, including the Professional Criterium & Team Time Trial Nationals in Greenville, S.C., Masters & Para-Cycling Road Championships and Professional Road & Time Trial Nationals in Winston-Salem, N.C., Amateur Road Nationals in Louisville, Ky., and Mountain Bike National Championships in Mammoth, Calif.
“We’re honored to have the opportunity to participate in our national championships,” said Mike Wilson, Mavic Brand Manager, Americas. “The importance of these races, especially in an Olympic year, is not lost on us, and we look forward to helping our athletes as they follow their dreams."
The Volkswagen Mavic expo car will also be a fixture at USA Cycling events, giving race spectators a chance to go #InsideTheYellowCar and listen live to race radio, putting spectators in the heat of the action. The yellow Mavic Volkswagen will be easy to spot in the expo area near the start/finish line of major USA Cycling events throughout the country.
As part of the partnership, USA Cycling track teams will also compete and train on Mavic’s Comete, IO and new “Rio” wheels. This announcement comes on the heels of the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, which saw the U.S. women’s team pursuit team set a new national record on Mavic wheels.
“This partnership with Mavic continues a long-lasting relationship that most recently led to the 2016 Women’s Team Pursuit Track World Championship in London,” said Jim Miller, VP of Athletics, USA Cycling. “We look forward to a long and successful relationship with Mavic."
The U.S. women weren’t alone in their success, as riders on Mavic wheels took the vast majority (48 of 57) of the world championship medals available in London, including 17 gold, 16 silver and 15 bronze medals.
