Steve McNally has been appointed as the executive director of USA Taekwondo on a permanent basis, the governing body has announced.

USA Taekwondo's Executive Search Committee had recommended McNally, who has served in the role in an acting capacity since September 1, be given the position.

The organisation's Board of Directors then unanimously voted to ratify his appointment.

McNally's term was effective from Sunday (October 1).

He replaces Keith Ferguson, who left the governing body by mutual agreement after revelations about the handling of misconduct cases during his tenure.

Ferguson sat on the Executive Search Committee which put McNally, previously USA Taekwondo's director of marketing and communications, forward for the role.

He was the third head of the organisation, which has twice been put on probation by the United States Olympic Committee in the past 13 years, since 2011.

Ferguson is still associated with USA Taekwondo and is expected to advise McNally during his transition into the permanent executive director.

"I am delighted to be given the opportunity to lead USA Taekwondo into a truly exciting future," said McNally.

"Since the day I arrived I have been humbled by the warm welcome and support I have received from the taekwondo community, and to be given the chance to repay them for that is a responsibility I do not take lightly.

"I intend to greatly improve the lines of communication between the national office and the constituents, and to build a culture founded on integrity, inclusion and sporting excellence.

"I would very much like to thank the Board of Directors and the executive search committee for their confidence and support, and look forward to sharing my vision for the future of USA Taekwondo with you all very shortly."

McNally joined USA Taekwondo in July 2014 after working as head of marketing at Super League side Salford Red Devils, who were called the Salford City Reds during his time with the club, between 2006 and 2013.
