According to the National Recreation and Parks Association, since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month. This year’s campaign will have a special emphasis on unique promotions, as well as personalization, and will include a strong social media component.
This July, NRPA’s goal is to get everyone talking about what they love about parks and recreation and why parks and recreation are so vital in our lives.
NRPA has created a social media kit and is asking users to “Get ready to fill in the blank and share some LOVE!” Community members can share what they love about parks, and what they think they bring to the neighborhood – from health and wellness to nature to community spirit and social equity. During Park and Recreation Month, the goal is to get everyone talking about the positive role parks and recreation has on everyday life.
This year's poster and other graphics leave space for the community to contribute the reasons why they love their local park and recreation. Encourage your community to fill in the blank and share what they love. Get even more creative and make a video with your community showing what they love about parks and recreation.
Post photos and videos to your Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest board, Websites, and blogs. Make sure you like or follow us and then tag NRPA (Facebook @NationalRecreationandParkAssociation; Twitter @NRPA_News) and email us a link to July@nrpa.org. NRPA will be highlighting these photos through the month of July.
Communities can register their agency now as an official Park and Recreation Month participant and add information to NRPA’s event registration feature. NRPA will be compiling a list of Park and Recreation Month events and promoting it.
