Petty to Assume Consulting Role with USA Cycling

USA Cycling announced today that Sean Petty will be leaving his position as chief of domestic and international affairs on April 15 to pursue a number of personal business interests inside and outside the sport of cycling. He will continue to serve USA Cycling as a consultant as well as serving on the UCI Road Commission.

“While I’m disappointed Sean is leaving us on a full-time basis, I am pleased that he will continue to be an engaged and valuable resource to our sport and to USA Cycling by continuing to work with us on a consultant basis going forward,” said Steve Johnson, USA Cycling CEO. “Sean will also remain on the UCI Road Commission and will work closely with Mike Plant and me on our ambitious international relations initiatives.”

Petty has committed a large portion of his professional life to USA Cycling, serving in many capacities in virtually every area of the company over the past two decades. In addition to his day-to-day role with USA Cycling, Petty has served on the UCI Road Commission for the past eight years and was appointed to another four-year term in the fall of 2013.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to work for the past two decades on behalf of the many riders, race directors, teams, coaches and officials who are part of the USA Cycling family," Petty said. "I am very pleased that, among my new business endeavors, I will continue to work closely with USA Cycling as a consultant on a number of initiatives now and in the coming years. And I’m honored to continue serving the sport as a member of the UCI Road Commission.”

Petty is the only representative on the 10-person UCI Road Commission who hails from outside of Europe and will continue to represent the interests of the Americas on that important commission.
