USA Cycling announced an innovative new benefit for race directors and participants alike. With the change, all events and participants that utilize USA Cycling’s online registration system in 2015 will enjoy the peace of mind that comes with USA Cycling’s new Event Cancellation Protection Program. This benefit will provide refunds for registrants who registered for an event or race that is cancelled due to adverse weather, natural disaster or terrorism.*
“We hope that this unique benefit will help solve a very real dilemma that our members and race directors have dealt with for many years,” said USA Cycling President and CEO Steve Johnson. “This program will help lower the risk of organizing an event and increase racer satisfaction by allowing them to pre-register with confidence.”
Moving forward, every event registration processed via the USA Cycling event registration system will automatically be covered by the USA Cycling Event Cancellation Protection Program. The National Governing Body created the Event Cancellation Protection Program to solve race refund issues that have long-plagued events that are cancelled after race fees were spent on pre-race expenses.
For racers, this means being able to pre-register with more confidence, knowing that should the weather take a turn for the worst, riders will get their money back. For race directors, this means being able to safely invest pre-race entry fees in the fixed expenses that are necessary before the event even starts.
By simply choosing USA Cycling’s registration system for their events, race directors will now enjoy peace of mind by knowing that, if they are forced to cancel their event, that event may qualify for full or partial refunds of registration fees. Additionally, race directors will also appreciate the ease of which this benefit is administered. If an event is cancelled due to a covered peril, USA Cycling will issue the refunds directly to the registrants. This will allow race directors to make responsible event decisions without the participants experiencing the loss of their registration fees and the negative public relations that “no refund” policies often create. It will also allow participants to receive refunds without increasing the overhead or work for the race directors.
