USA Triathlon announced the results of its 2017 Board of Directors Election, and Susan Haag, Mike Wien, Kevin Haas, Erin Storie and Keri Serota were elected to the USA Triathlon Board of Directors. All new board members will serve two-year terms beginning in January 2018.
Haag, Wien and Haas were re-elected as continuing Board members in their respective regions. Serota joins the Board of Directors for the first time as the Mideast Region representative, while Storie was re-elected as an Athlete Director.
“On behalf of USA Triathlon, I look forward to the continued service of Susan, Mike, Kevin and Erin on the USA Triathlon Board of Directors, and I am proud to welcome Keri to the Board for the first time,” said Barry Siff, USA Triathlon Board of Directors President. “These five individuals bring diverse talents and a combined wealth of experience in the multisport community, and I look forward to working with each of them to advance USA Triathlon’s strategic goals.”
Haag (Jacksonville, Fla.) was first appointed to the Board of Directors in 2013 to fill a vacant seat for the Florida Region. A practicing lawyer, Haag currently sits as a Special Magistrate and Traffic Hearing Officer and served as a prosecutor in Florida for almost 20 years. Haag is a veteran multisport athlete with more than 20 years of racing experience, including several years as a member of USA Triathlon’s amateur Team USA. She is also a member of the ITU Women’s Committee, USA Triathlon’s Florida Regional Council and several professional and charitable boards.
Wien (Marietta, Ga.) was appointed to fill the Southeast Region’s seat on the board in 2013 and has served as Vice President since 2014. Wien spent 28 years in senior marketing leadership positions at Frito-Lay, Pepsi, Omni Hotels, CitiBank and Deloitte. He left the corporate world 10 years ago to become a professional speaker, a marketing professor at Georgia State University, a consultant and a dedicated triathlete.
Haas (Berkeley, Calif.) has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2013 as the Pacific Region representative, and has served as Treasurer since 2014. He previously served as the Collegiate Committee Chair, Conference Commissioner for the West Coast Collegiate Triathlon Conference and President of the University of California at Berkeley Triathlon Team. Haas holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from UC Berkeley and works as a software engineer at Counsyl Inc., a genomics start-up.
Erin Storie (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was re-elected as an Elite/Pro Athlete Representative and member of the USA Triathlon Athlete Advisory Council after first taking those roles in 2016. Storie is the 2013 USA Triathlon Collegiate Club National Championships draft-legal champion, 2014 ITU Under-23 World Championship bronze medalist, two-time U23 national champion and two-time USA Triathlon U23 Athlete of the Year. She was the runner-up at the 2014 USA Triathlon Elite National Championships and represented the U.S. at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games.
Serota (Chicago, Ill.) joins the Board of Directors for the first time as the Mideast Region representative. Serota is the co-founder, executive director and head coach of the Chicago-based Dare2Tri, one of the nation’s largest paratriathlon clubs. She is a USA Triathlon Certified Race Director and Level I Certified Coach, and is the Vice Chair of the USA Triathlon National Paratriathlon Committee. Serota has guided for athletes with disabilities in multiple marathons and triathlons, and completed her first IRONMAN race in 2011.
As mandated by USA Triathlon Bylaws, officer seats — including President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer — will be elected by the members of the Board of Directors at the first meeting of the year in January.
