USA Triathlon and Triathlon Business International (TBI) have announced that the second annual Endurance Exchange, an industry-wide conference for endurance sports, will be held as a virtual show this month.

‘The online experience, set for January 21-23, provides a safe opportunity to learn, share and network — offering greater flexibility, reducing costs and eliminating the need for constituents to travel in order to attend.’

USA Triathlon and TBI launched Endurance Exchange in an effort to grow, inspire and support the multisport community by bringing industry stakeholders together to learn, share best practices, network and collaborate.

The virtual format in 2021 will be hosted on Cvent, a leading event management platform, and aims to encourage participation from an even wider range of multisport constituents.

‘The event is open not just to those involved in the business of triathlon, but also to multisport enthusiasts of all types – from beginners to competitive age-group athletes to Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls – as specific athlete-focused sessions will cater to all skill and experience levels.’

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to dramatically impact the global sports landscape, Endurance Exchange will also unveil innovative tools and strategies to adapt as an industry during this unprecedented time.

The conference sessions will run from approximately 10:30-18:00 ET on Thursday, January 21 and Friday, January 22, and from approximately 10:30-14:00 ET on Saturday, January 23. In addition, exclusive workouts will be offered for attendees each morning beginning at 08:00 ET.

Registration for the 2021 virtual event is now open at enduranceexchange.com at early-bird pricing of US$150. An initial schedule will be published by mid-September, with additional sessions and speakers added through mid-December.

The inaugural Endurance Exchange was held in Tempe, Arizona, in January 2020, drawing more than 600 attendees — including coaches, race directors, brands and retailers, triathlon clubs, non-profit organizations, media outlets and marketing entities, athletes and other members of the multisport community.

“The endurance sport industry is facing unprecedented professional, financial and personal challenges as a result of COVID-19,” said Rocky Harris, USA Triathlon CEO.

“As the future of the pandemic remains uncertain, hosting the second annual Endurance Exchange as a virtual event will offer the greatest flexibility and affordability, and the best possible experience for attendees. We look forward to providing ground-breaking content as well as all-important networking opportunities to provide a forum to share and learn from each other at a time when our industry needs it the most.”

Last year Endurance Exchange combined several pre-existing triathlon industry conferences into one, including the TBI Annual Conference, USA Triathlon Race Director Summit, Art & Science of Triathlon International Coaching Symposium and USA Triathlon Partner Summit.

Participating USA Triathlon-certified race directors and coaches will gain Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to further their professional development.

New for 2021, Endurance Exchange will encompass the former Medical Multisport Conference, in which members of the medical community come together to discuss the latest developments and best practices for multisport athletes and events. Physicians, allied health professionals, physical therapists, chiropractors, race directors and coaches will meet as a medical constituency for several virtual sessions and workshops to discuss topics ranging from race-day emergency response to cardiac health and long-term injury prevention, with a common goal of making the sport safe and enjoyable for all participants.

The schedule design and speaker line-up for 2021 Endurance Exchange will be based on feedback from attendees of the inaugural event, as well as the unique challenges facing the multisport industry in 2020.

Several sessions will focus on the impact of COVID-19 on endurance sports, with topics such as:

  • Preparing and adapting your business for a post-pandemic world;
  • Keeping consumers and clients engaged beyond racing; and
  • Capitalizing on the growing popularity of virtual events.

Increased emphasis will also be placed on topics such as diversity and inclusion in sport; entrepreneurship; and using technology to enhance your business or practice.

‘Sessions will be varied to provide value to all experience levels, and scope will range from tactical discussions to big-picture reflections. Interactive virtual round tables and networking sessions will encourage attendees to learn from and connect with their peers throughout the three-day event.’

For the second year, USA Triathlon and TBI are offering a limited number of Endurance Exchange scholarships to foster diversity and bring varied perspectives to the event. Interested candidates may apply at enduranceexchange.com. Priority will be given to people of racial and ethnic minorities, women, and those who may not otherwise be able to attend due to financial constraints.
