U.S. Olympic Committee Announces Organizational Restructuring

The United States Olympic Committee has announced several changes to its executive leadership team, the most noteworthy of which is the hiring of Benita Fitzgerald Mosley as the chief of organizational excellence, reporting to USOC CEO Scott Blackmun.

"I'm extraordinarily excited about this addition to our team," said Blackmun. "We have to ensure that we continue to evolve as an organization and hold ourselves to the same standards as our athletes, and Benita will help us do just that."

An Olympic champion (1984) and senior NGB executive, Fitzgerald Mosley thoroughly understands the complex challenges that NGBs and athletes face on a daily basis. She served as the chief of sport performance for USA Track & Field for the last four years, including during the 2012 Olympic Games, where U.S. track & field athletes earned 29 medals. Prior to USATF, Fitzgerald Mosley was president and CEO of Women in Cable Telecommunications (2001-09) after serving in a variety of roles for the USOC, including director of the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center (1995-97), director of U.S. Olympic Training Centers (1997-2000) and director of public relations programs (2000-01).

"The opportunity to return to the USOC and continue to serve the Olympic Movement in a broader role is a dream come true," said Fitzgerald Mosley. "The USOC has dedicated itself to competitive excellence and I look forward to helping the organization take that mission to the next level."

Fitzgerald Mosley will oversee a number of organizational priorities that will utilize her unique perspective, including athlete career programs and the athlete ombudsman's office. Additionally, she will assume many of the responsibilities of outgoing Chief Administrative Officer Kirsten Volpi, including diversity and inclusion, human resources, facilities, NGB organizational development, security, and strategic planning. After having successfully streamlined many of the USOC business functions and strategic planning processes, Volpi is returning to the Colorado School of Mines, where she previously served as chief financial officer.

"Kirsten has been a fantastic member of our leadership team and has made our operations more effective than ever," said Blackmun. "I'm grateful for her dedication, professionalism and friendship, and I know that she will remain a strong supporter of Team USA."

Further organizational changes include:

• Chief Financial Officer Walt Glover will assume additional responsibility for information technology and audit and report to Blackmun.
• Mike English, chief of sport operations, is leaving the organization at the end of the month after successfully managing significant changes to the OTC business models and overseeing major construction projects at the three U.S. Olympic Training Centers.
• Rick Adams has been named chief of sport operations and NGB relations and will add oversight of the three OTCs to his NGB organizational development responsibilities. He will report to Fitzgerald Mosley.
