Early this year, FISE, the worldwide extreme sports festival, launched a new process to find additional host cities for its 2016-2018 World Series featuring emerging sports: BMX, Skateboard, Roller Sports, Mountain Bike and Wakeboard.
In a statement from the organization, it was noted, "The FISE World Series Committee recognized the high level of interest expressed by numerous cities worldwide, all working toward achieving similar goals: encourage sport participation, engage with youth and promote action sports, develop tourism through sporting events hence drawing social, cultural and economic benefits to the city and the country as a whole."
The Selection Committee has announced the five destinations to have made the shortlist: Denver, Colorado; Edmonton, Alberta, Canada;, Kazan, Russia; and Qatar, United Arab Emirates.
All destinations are in the running to stage the 2016-2018 FISE World Series including the first ever UCI BMX Freestyle World Cu; however, only three cities will join the existing Host Cities in 2016.
The FWS Committee will continue in-depth discussions with each of the cities and the host will be announced this fall.
After the success of stage 1 in Montpellier last May, FISE World Series will be travelling to Chengdu-China on October 16-18 before heading to Langkawi on December 16-18 for the ultimate stop of the 2015 FISE World Series.
