The complete exhibition schedule for the 2014 USA Basketball Women’s National Team has been finalized and includes the USA Basketball Showcase, a Red-White intrasquad game, at 7 p.m. (EDT) on Sept. 11 at the University of Delaware’s Bob Carpenter Center, which along with the previously announced Sept. 15 exhibition contest versus Canada, will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
“Delaware fans are truly some of the most avid women’s basketball fans in the country,” said Elena Delle Donne, 2014-16 USA Basketball Women’s National Team member and University of Delaware alum. “Having the USA team come to town will be one of the biggest sporting events Delaware fans have ever witnessed at the Bob Carpenter Center. I can guarantee the building will be rocking with tons of spirit and support.
“Returning to Delaware and wearing USA across my chest will be such an exhilarating moment for me. It has always been a dream of mine to play on the USA team, and to do it in front of fans who have been watching me play since the eighth grade is going to be so special to me. I hope it will be a special moment for the fans as well.”
“It’s an incredible honor to have the USA Basketball Women’s National Team choose Delaware as a destination for their National Showcase,” said Matt Robinson, Chairman of the Delaware Sports Commission, which led the local effort to bring the Red vs. White game to the state. “This is exactly the kind of high-profile event we are constantly working to attract, because it will benefit the state on so many levels. By bringing the game to Delaware, the DSC delivers business to our partners and to local merchants, and also gives the state national television exposure.”
Available members of the 2014-16 USA Basketball Women’s National Team (those not in the WNBA Playoffs), will begin training camp Sept. 8-10 at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
Traveling up the coast to Bridgeport, Connecticut, the USA will train Sept. 14 alongside Canada, prior to the two teams squaring off in a Sept. 15 exhibition contest (7 p.m. EDT).
