Chad Murphy Named USBC Executive Director

Chad Murphy has been named executive director of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) by the USBC Board of Directors. Murphy served as USBC interim executive director since February, 2014.

Reporting to the USBC Board of Directors, the executive director serves as an officer of the corporation and has overall operational responsibility for staff, programs, finance and execution of the strategic plan.

“Chad Murphy is a highly capable leader that emerged as a natural fit for USBC,” USBC President Andrew Cain said. “Through his management of IBC Youth Development and in his recent role as USBC Interim Executive Director, Chad has demonstrated that he is a bold innovator with remarkable business acumen.

“He also possesses a depth of industry knowledge, a lifelong passion for bowling, and an admiration for our volunteers that will allow USBC to flourish as bowling’s National Governing Body and premier membership organization. I am excited for our future and pleased to have Chad serve as our executive director.”

Murphy first joined the International Bowling Campus (IBC) in 2010 as Director of Youth for the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America (BPAA). He became IBC Director of Youth Development in 2011 at which time he assumed management of USBC youth programs as well. In January of 2012, Murphy earned promotion to IBC Managing Director of Youth Development.

“Bowling is far more than a profession for me. It is part of my family, my fabric and who I am,” Murphy said. “My focus and passion has been serving the sport of bowling since I joined the campus. I am honored to take on this new role for USBC and help lead our National Governing Body and membership organization forward.”

Prior to joining the IBC, Murphy held management positions at Columbia Industries and Ebonite. Earlier in his career, he worked as a team member on the Professional Bowlers Association and Professional Women’s Bowling Association tours for Columbia 300. He is a former member of Team USA and his playing honors include a silver medal at the 1998 World Tenpin Team Cup in Amsterdam and he was also part of the Ebonite Nitro/R's team that won two Grand Championships at the Brunswick World Team Challenge Series in 1994 and 1996.

The International Bowling Campus will conduct a search for new Managing Director of IBC Youth Development with USBC and BPAA Executive Directors collaborating on the selection. Murphy will continue to supervise IBC Youth Development until a new leader for the department is named.
