The winners in two categories of the 2012 United States Bowling Congress Writing Competition have been selected.
The 61st annual writing competition, which drew nearly 70 submissions, consisted of a News/Feature category and an Editorial category. Three winners were selected in each category and each winner will receive a certificate and a paid one-year membership in the International Bowling Media Association.
In the News/Feature category, for non-fiction stories concerning any individual, facility, equipment or organization related to tenpin bowling involvement, or coverage of a bowling tournament or event, the winners are:
Bob Johnson, Bowlers Journal International, for his coverage of Bowling's U.S. Women's Open
Thomas Madrecki, Bowlers Journal International, for his feature on USBC Hall of Famer Amleto Monacelli
Bill Vint, Bowlers Journal International, for his article on bowling legend Don Carter
In the Editorial category, for any opinion expressed in the media concerning a tenpin bowling-related subject, the winners are:
Keith Hamilton, Bowlers Journal International, for his article on Pete Weber and "Q" ratings
Fran Piraino, CNY Striker, for her tribute to Syracuse Bowling Hall of Famer Marty Piraino
Lyle Zikes, Bowlers Journal International, on the 2012 Bowling's U.S. Women's Open finals
To be eligible, articles must have been published between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2012.
