Bike trainer firm Saris has announced a challenge on ROUVY supporting World Bicycle Relief’s mission of providing bikes to frontline healthcare workers. The Ride for World Bicycle Relief challenge will consist of three virtual routes that must be completed by June 23, 2020. For each completed challenge, Saris will donate $1 to World Bicycle Relief.

“Here at Saris, everything we do is about the bike, and we are excited to support our long-time partner, World Bicycle Relief,” said Saris Director of Sales and Marketing, Jeff Weiss. “Every dollar donated from this challenge will benefit their important work during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

A release from ROUVY and Saris notes that… ‘Bikes are proving more versatile and important than ever during these unprecedented times. World Bicycle Relief and its buffalo bicycles are ensuring that vulnerable communities are receiving the medical supplies and care needed during a global pandemic. Whether it is medication delivery, pre/post-natal care, food and water distribution, or news delivery, every dollar helps provide another bicycle that provides these life-saving services.’

“It has been incredible to see how many people are turning to bikes during this time – as a mode of transportation, for mental and physical well-being, as a way for families to get outside together, and virtually to find a way to connect with others,” said World Bicycle Relief’s Director of Partnerships, Claire Geiger.

“Seeing people come together on ROUVY as a community and take on the challenge of distance to support those that face it on a daily basis is incredibly inspiring. The Power of bicycles has the ability to change the world.”

The Ride for World Bicycle Relief challenge routes have been chosen from ROUVY’s extensive catalogue of geo-synced virtual rides. Riders can choose which order to complete the routes during the challenge’s duration.

Following, #RideforItaly charity initiative, which generated €14,000 for Italy’s Veneto region, this is the second time Saris and ROUVY have partnered in 2020 to raise funds for areas impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Petr Samek, ROUVY’s CEO said “We are happy to host such an event as a charity challenge donating to World Bicycle Relief. Any charitable initiatives are always warmly supported, especially from such a great partner as Saris, who is setting a great example of giving and making an impact on both a local and global scale.

“We have seen a great wave of solidarity among our users at the beginning of the pandemic lockdown and we hope that this spirit will accompany this Challenge as well.”
