The Great American Rivalry Series® kicked off its 21st season at Bryan Station High School with a 2023 Kentucky State Championship rematch between Louisville’s Trinity High School vs Lexington’s Bryan Station High School. With 71 games spanning across 34 states this season, the series showcased premier high school football rivalries nationwide. This season the Great American Rivalry Series® celebrated some major achievements. The Series put on its 1,200th rivalry game with a matchup between Warren Central and Ben Davis, in Indianapolis. Wrapping up its 21st season, the Great American Rivalry Series® has officially reached over 20 million fans, with over 10 million total fans in attendance since its inception in 2004.

The Great American Rivalry Series® takes pride in highlighting athlete’s hard work on the field and in the classroom. During each Great American Rivalry Series® game, a senior football player from each school was acknowledged for their academic and extracurricular achievements and awarded the designation of Great American Rivalry Series® Scholar Athlete as well as a scholarship. At season’s end, we kicked off the annual Great American Rivalry Series® All-America Scholar Athlete voting resulting in the top 25 Scholar Athletes from across the country who received the most votes from fans, family, and friends receiving an additional scholarship. The Great American Rivalry Series® is proud to acknowledge these Scholar Athletes as well as highlight each team and school that participated in the Great American Rivalry Series®. During the 21st season of the Great American Rivalry Series®, we contributed over $113,000 dollars to schools and athletic departments, including $42,000 in scholarships.

As a book end to this monumental season, the Great American Rivalry Series® went to North Carolina and celebrated the historic rivalry of Pisgah High School and Tuscola High School. The game had a lot more meaning behind it this year. A week before its originally scheduled match-up, historic flooding from Hurricane Helene hit Haywood County, where the two schools were located. The Pisgah High School football field was inundated by 28 feet of flood water, forcing the schools to reschedule their game. The team at BRAINBOX held a 3-week drive where we collected donations for relief efforts. Our team drove to Haywood County, North Carolina and delivered these items to help both schools and displaced students and families. It was uncertain if Pisgah and Tuscola would be able to continue their football season.

Fortunately, both schools did continue their season, and the game was able to be rescheduled on November 8th where the “County Clash” took place in front of 14,000+ fans. The communities of Pisgah and Tuscola High Schools came together to make this game happen, with a close game ending in a 10-7 win for the Pisgah Bears. The Great American Rivalry Series® was proud to have this game in our series and demonstrated how we not only celebrate our rivalry communities, but that there is a lot more to the great rivalries in the Series than just football.

We would like to thank our presenting partners for 2024: the United States Marine Corps, the United States Army, Athletic Turf Wash, and Athlete Advantage. These partners highlighted their commitment to supporting America’s favorite Friday Night pastime.
