During SEC BeachFest, the conference’s unofficial kickoff to football season, event goers are encouraged to take part in many SEC-themed activities, including a 5K and one-mile fun run on Saturday, Aug. 17. Race participants are asked to celebrate their school and wear their favorite teams’ colors.
“During last year’s race, it was amazing to see so many fans take pride in their schools,” said Joanie Flynn, vice president of marketing for Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism. “There was an excellent turnout for last year’s race, and we’re happy to offer runners this race opportunity again this year.”
Check-in for the 5K and one-mile fun run will take place at The Hangout with both races starting on West 1st Avenue near The Steamer. The 5K begins at 8 a.m. while the fun run starts at 9 a.m., and both races will end at The Hangout for a waffle breakfast.
Guests running the 5K will be charged $35, which includes an SEC BeachFest weekend pass if registration is received by July 26 ($40 by Aug. 16 and $50 on race day). The one-mile fun run is limited to students ages 18 and younger. One-mile fun run participants will be charged $15, which includes an SEC BeachFest weekend pass if registration is received by Aug. 16 ($20 on race day). The first 700 race entrants will receive a free race shirt.
Other SEC BeachFest activities include appearances by Legendary Coaches and Players, FanZone Fueled by BP, golf scramble, alumni happy hours, SEC BeachFest Fishing Challenge, kids’ pier fishing tournament, concerts on the beach and much more.
