As PGA TOUR Latinoamérica prepares for an exciting finish to its 2017 season, with four tournaments still remaining, the international developmental tour is already preparing for the 2018 season. Wednesday, it announced its four 2018 Qualifying Tournaments, events that help determine the membership of PGA TOUR Latinoamérica.
The four sites will be the Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howie-In-The-Hills, Florida (January 9-12), Estrella del Mar Golf & Beach Resort in Mazatlan, Mexico (January 16-19), Los Lagartos in Bogota, Colombia (January 23-26) and Pilará Golf Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina (January 30-February 2). Cost for each Qualifying Tournament site is US $2,000 per player.
At each of the Qualifying Tournament venues, PGA TOUR Latinoamérica will award membership to the top-35 finishers and those tied for 35th. The medalist at each site will be exempt for the entire 2018 season and not subject to the reshuffle, where players are ranked at various points during the season based on individual performances.
The next-10 finishers at each tournament site will receive exempt status for the first half of the 2018 season. They will be subject to the reshuffle for the second half of the season. The remaining 24 players and anyone tied for the last qualifying position, will receive conditional status and will be eligible for the reshuffle.
“We are always excited to announce our Qualifying Tournaments because it means our next season is fast approaching. The Qualifying Tournaments every year identify players who may later go on to big years,” said PGA TOUR Latinoamérica President Jack Warfield. “I expect our 2018 Qualifying Tournaments will be no different, and I’m looking forward to watching the next group of players on PGA TOUR Latinoamérica.”
It is anticipated that each of the four qualifying tournaments will have 120 players vying for PGA TOUR Latinoamérica membership.
At the 2017 Qualifying Tournaments in the U.S., Mexico, Colombia and Argentina, medalists were Hunter Hamrick, Blake Olson, Ian Davis and Thomas Baik, respectively.
The application to participate in PGA TOUR Latinoamérica Qualifying Tournaments will be available via the Tour’s official website beginning November 21, 2017 at 9 a.m. EST. It is suggested that players apply as quickly as possible once registration opens as high demand is expected for the limited playing positions available.
