Troon® and Troon-affiliated facilities around the world are raising funds for breast cancer research and awareness about breast cancer prevention and screening exams throughout the month of October. Troon-affiliated golf properties will fly pink-checkered flags on their 18th greens to help raise awareness about breast cancer and will have various fundraising events to support PLAY for P.I.N.K.® and other breast cancer charity organizations.
PLAY for P.I.N.K. (Prevention, Immediate diagnosis, New technology, Knowledge) supports a nationwide network of volunteers who raise money for breast cancer research through sporting and lifestyle events to speed advances in prevention, detection, treatment and survivorship. PLAY for P.I.N.K. donates 100 percent of its proceeds to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Throughout the month of October, Troon-managed facilities will host golf clinics, putting challenges and fun playing opportunities. In addition, Troon has made it easier than ever to donate to PLAY for P.I.N.K. and breast cancer research by creating a QR code and a donation-landing page. The QR code will be displayed at Troon-affiliated facilities around the globe, as members and guests can scan the QR code, then direct their PLAY for P.I.N.K. donation through their favorite Troon-affiliated facility.
Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill, Calif. got a jump on the fundraising, holding a PLAY for P.I.N.K. golf tournament on Friday, September 1st. The event raised more than $55,000 for breast cancer research and awareness. Similar breast cancer charity fundraising events will be held at Troon-affiliated facilities throughout October, including:
- Al Hamra Golf Club in the U.A.E will host a Pinktober golf scramble tournament on October 7th
- The Els Club Desaru Coast in Malaysia will provide discounts on merchandise and food and beverage for all who wear pink throughout the month of October.
- Montgomerie Golf Club Dubai will host a breast cancer awareness day
- Pacific Harbour Golf & Country in Australia will host a Tee Off For Breast Cancer Golf Day
In addition to the fundraising efforts done in September and October at Troon-affiliated facilities, numerous Troon associates also work throughout the year in raising awareness about breast cancer. One example is Robbie Lemming, the general manager at the Ocean Club Golf Course at Atlantis Paradise Island in The Bahamas. Lemming is the 2023 Warrior of the Year Award recipient for his outstanding support and contributions to the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group, a national African American breast cancer survivorship organization.
“Robbie is the consummate club hospitality professional,” said Troon Executive Vice President Matt Hurley. “He not only does an excellent job overseeing club operations but believes in community and community involvement. We congratulate Robbie for his fundraising efforts and being recognized as ‘Warrior of the Year’ for the Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group.”
