Where have all the theme runs gone? It's actually a valid question. For a while there, the race calendar was filled with them: races (or, more realistically, fun runs) where you got pelted with tomatoes, sprayed with colored dye, swam through mud or ran in a wedding dress. These days, those are an endangered species. What happened?

In its boom era, Jai alai was like roller disco: impenetrable to those who looked in from the outside and hot and happening for those who played. Coincidentally, the last time it was also wildly popular was in the roller disco era, meaning the late 1970s and early 80s.
