Cure Rare Disease (CRD), the emerging nonprofit biotech organization on a mission to develop precision medicine for rare genetic diseases, has received a donation of over $40,000 that was fundraised during the Cox Elite Gamer Holiday Charity Tournament featuring Fortnite® that took place in late 2020.
Cox, the largest private telecom company in America, joined arms with Practice Server, Fortnite’s leading tournament administration and production team, to produce a seasonal gaming event for good on their Elite Gamer platform that attracted more than 5,000 players, including noteworthy industry influencers like Stretch, Illest, Arab, Sayt, and more. Elite Gamer is Cox’s new gaming service that enhances the gaming experience for PC gamers, improving the connection between servers and players across all Cox markets.
The game mode of choice was Duos, as every elimination earned each team a point, and higher placements were able to earn progressively more points (up to 25) for a Victory Royale. The event was open to everyone – professionals and casual gamers alike – and proved to be a fun and easy way to socially distance while giving back to the great cause of supporting the rare disease community.
Challenges entailed winning the tournament, most eliminations, best placement, longest team alive, and most points accrued in a single game. Rewards for the top five teams offered $5,000 in cash prizes plus coveted items like respawn chairs for players, and an Asus Bundle Package including an Rt Ax82U, Scope Keyboard, Gladius II Core Mouse, and a Sheath BLK Mousepad.
