Four NHL Teams Will Host Regional Esports Tournaments

Four NHL teams—the Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, Vegas Golden Knights, and Florida Panthers—will host regional esports tournaments in partnership with the North American Scholastic Esports Federation. The tournaments will be part of the 2020 Chel Invitational that’s open to EA Sports’ NHL 20 gamers on Xbox and Playstation.

Each team will host an online qualifying tournament open to local high school students, and another tournament open to adults (18 and over). The qualifying tournaments will be held through January and mid-February before a live Finals will be held at the DreamHack venue in Anaheim, Calif., on Feb. 22. The tournaments will award a combined $50,000 in college scholarships, grants, and team prizes.

NASEF-affiliated clubs have until Jan. 31 to register for the high school tournament. More information for how to sign up for each team’s local qualifying tournaments can be found on NASEF’s website.

“The youth focus is fantastic—this is a great way to connect with fans of all ages, encouraging their love of hockey and showing them how they can have related career paths on and off the ice,” Mark Deppe, NASEF commissioner, said in a press release.
