Nerd Street Gamers Announced 2021 Winter Championships

Nerd Street Gamers announced the 2021 Winter Championships — a completely digital tournament series consisting of over $100,000 in cash and prizes across four soon to be announced titles. The series will feature weekly tournaments providing qualifier opportunities for the main event in January, where a Winter Champion will be named. Leveraging some of the largest titles in competitive gaming, the Winter Championship provides North America with a premier pipeline for gamers.

Since closing facilities and halting live events in March due to the pandemic, Nerd Street Gamers has invested heavily in its digital tournament platform. This has allowed the company to continue providing competitive opportunities for those who have the privilege of competition-grade equipment at home. The increased virtual presence has resulted in membership growth of 185% and viewership on Twitch and YouTube increasing by five-hundred percent in just six months. 

Over 100 players in the professional gaming scene today began their path to success at one of NSG’s tournaments. NSG has hosted some of the largest online amateur tournaments this year, and its tournament winners have recently moved on to play in publisher-backed professional tournaments like Riot Games’ Valorant Ignition Series. Four NSG qualifying tournaments sent teams to the T1 and FaZe Invitational tournaments to play against the best in the world. The latter of which broke the global viewership record with over 120,000 live concurrent viewers. 

Qualifier tournaments for the 2021 Winter Championships will take place weekly, kicking off at the end of September 2020. Stay tuned for further announcements regarding games included in this series.
