Super League Triathlon (SLT) proudly announces its partnership with the prestigious RAFA NADAL SPORTS CENTRE (RNSC) for the league’s Mallorca Championship Series event, taking place on 3-4 November this year.
The partnership will see the RNSC host SLT’s world-class athletes throughout their time on the Balearic Island, not only accommodating them in the renowned Rafa Nadal Sports Residence but giving them access to first-class high performance sports and recovery facilities, including the centre’s gym, pool and wellness spa.
Mallorca will be the third of five SLT Championship Series event locations for the 2018-19 season. Known mainly for its spectacular yet challenging cycling, the island is rapidly becoming a hub for triathlon – both training and racing – thanks to its pristine blue waters and consistent good climate. By hosting races in these stunning locations, SLT intends to inspire a generation of athletes and triathlon fans across the world; an aspiration made all the more achievable by joining forces with the RNSC, as it gives all levels of triathletes a base to train and improve using state-of-the-art facilities.
“It’s a pleasure for us to welcome all the triathletes and their teams to compete in the SLT. Our facilities are equipped to cover the needs of these professional athletes. We already have experience in this type of high-level athlete performance that is very demanding for their preparation, rest and nutrition. We are confident that these athletes can find what they need in our sports complex,” saidJavier Perelló, General Director of the Rafa Nadal Sports Centre.
SLT Co-Founder and CEO, Michael D’hulst, said: “Mallorca has always been one of my go-to training destinations for both cycling and triathlon – the island has so much to offer. I discovered RNSC last year and its amazing facilities, plus the beautiful venue of Monte Cristo, so I’m very excited to host an event with world-class facilities on this challenging course.”
SLT and RNSC will together host an Awards Dinner for the athletes after the weekend’s racing on Sunday 4 November at the Rafa Nadal Museum Xperience – a unique interactive experience that includes all the trophies that Rafa Nadal has achieved so far, in a career that has seen him win more than 900 matches, 17 Grand Slam Singles titles and two Olympic Gold medals. The Xperience also gives sports fans a sneak peek at memorabilia from Spanish cycling legend Miguel Induráin; arguably the two best footballers of our time, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi; Nadal’s good friend and on-court nemesis, Roger Federer; as well as Spain’s NBA star Marc Gasol, and much more.
There will be a familiar face for local fans this November as Mallorca born-and-bred athlete Mario Mola (pictured above) will be competing on home turf to battle for the SLT title. Excited to race in front of a home crowd, the ITU World Number One said: “I haven’t raced in Spain for three years and I want to thank SLT for choosing Mallorca as one of their venues and giving me the opportunity to race at home in front of my friends and family. SLT formats are always such a challenge and I’m sure that the island of Mallorca will be a great race venue for the first ever Super League Triathlon in Spain. I really hope this event, and events like it can inspire and encourage a new wave of Mallorcan triathletes.”
Located just 12km from the start line on the southeast coast of Mallorca, the RNSC will provide a free shuttle service to take SLT fans from the sports centre to the race at Porto Cristo, and will even provide the event shuttle service for fans travelling to/from Palma de Mallorca – the island’s capital.
