The National Congress of State Games will be hosting its first State Games of America Virtual Games starting September 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020. The sporting events featured are cycling, disc golf, duathlon, figure skating, fishing, footgolf, golf, rowing, running, swimming and taekwondo.
Athletes regardless of age or ability level are eligible to participate in the Virtual Games. Registered athletes will receive a medal and a t-shirt for each event in which they are registered. Participants’ results and finishing photos/videos are submitted to the State Games of America website where participants will be featured on a virtual leaderboard. Each sporting event costs $30 except for figure skating which is $50.
Kevin Cummings, National Congress of State Games Vice President and State Games of America Chair, stated “The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted all aspect of life, including recreation and athletics. The State Games of America Virtual Games provide a safe, grassroots opportunity for athletes of all ages and abilities to compete in the sports they love and qualify for the 2022 State Games of America.”
All participants competing in the State Games of America Virtual Games (except for those registered for swimming & figure skating) will qualify for the 2022 State Games of America – in the sport in which they competed. The 2022 State Games of America will be held in Ames / Des Moines, Iowa.
